Bartering

Bartering is a mechanic that lets players "barter" with piglins by giving them gold ingots. It is a reliable way of getting a large number of useful resources, and the only source of renewable Soul Speed books, Nether quartz, crying obsidian, soul sand, nether brick, gravel, and blackstone.

Piglins that are aggressive can still be given gold ingots, which will momentarily distract them. If a baby piglin is given a gold ingot, it will simply take it and will not give the player any items in return.

If the player hits a piglin that is examining a gold ingot and does not kill it in one hit, it will confiscate the ingot and not give the player any items in return, and will not be able to barter until it picks up a different item. If the piglin is killed in one hit it will drop the gold ingot.

Piglins can still become aggressive while they are bartering, in which case they will behave differently on different versions. On Java Edition the piglin will finish the barter with the usual delay before trying to attack the player, but on Bedrock Edition the piglin will finish the barter immediately and then try to attack the player.

If a piglin zombifies before it can complete the barter, it will drop the gold ingot it was examining. While a piglin is examining a gold ingot it will not retreat from zombified piglins or zoglins.

The items piglins can barter, and the odds of them being bartered, are shown below.

Piglins are neutral mobs that spawn in crimson forests and nether wastes biomes in the Nether, and also generate with bastion remnants. When killed, adult piglins will drop 5 experience plus 1-3 experience for each piece of armor they were wearing. Each piece of equipment they spawn with has an 8.5% chance of being dropped. Baby piglins only drop 1 experience. Piglins will also drop a piglin head if they are killed by a charged creeper.

Piglins will spawn with either a sword or a crossbow. On Java Edition a piglin's crossbow can break if its durability runs out, forcing the piglin to use its fists when attacking. On Bedrock Edition a piglin's crossbow will never break. Piglins will be hostile to the player if the player is not wearing at least one piece of gold armor. If the player is wearing gold armor, they will be neutral. Piglins become aggravated if they see a player opening a storage block such as a chest or barrel. If they do not have line of sight to the player they will not become aggressive. If a storage block or gold-related block is broken by the player, all piglins within range will become aggressive toward the player, regardless of whether or not they have line of sight. Hitting a piglin or piglin brute will cause all piglins within range to become aggressive. Piglins will become neutral if they cannot see their target for about 30 seconds.

Piglins will retreat from zombified piglins, zoglins, soul fire, soul torches, soul lanterns, and lit soul campfires. They will ignore soul fire items if they are pursuing the player, but will still retreat from zombified piglins and zoglins. Baby piglins will also retreat from wither skeletons and the wither, while adult piglins will attempt to attack them. Both adult and baby piglins will be attacked by iron golems.

Every so often large groups of piglins will hunt hoglins. If they are outnumbered by the hoglins, they will retreat. If they are victorious and defeat all the hoglins in the area, they will pick up all the porkchops the hoglins dropped, and have a 10% chance of performing a T-pose victory dance.

Piglins will pick up any items they come across, preferring gold items, which they actively seek out. They can open and close wooden doors, and unlike most Nether mobs, piglins are not immune to damage from fire and lava. Baby piglins never grow up, and will play with baby hoglins by riding them. Up to three baby piglins can stack on top of each other while riding a baby hoglin. If a piglin or piglin brute is transported to the Overworld or the End, it will transform into a zombified piglin.

Players can barter with adult piglins for unique items by giving them gold ingots or throwing the ingots on the ground and letting the piglin pick them up.

Ghast

Hostile Mob
Health Points: 10
Attack Strength: Impact: 6
                             Explosion: Easy: 9
                                               Normal: 17
                                               Hard: 25

Ghasts are hostile mobs that spawn in the Nether in the nether wastes, basalt delta, and soul sand valley biomes. When killed they will drop 0-2 gunpowder, 0-1 ghast tears, and 5 experience.

Ghasts will take notice of players if they are within 64 blocks away from them (28 blocks in Bedrock Edition) and at roughly the same height. Unlike other hostile mobs, they will not try to move in closer to the player, but will instead stay at a distance to attack them. Ghasts are ranged mobs, and will attack the player by shooting fireballs out of their mouth.

Ghasts are immune to fire and lava damage, and make loud crying noises as they fly.

Strider

Passive Mob
Health Points: 20

Striders are passive mobs that spawn on lava lakes in the Nether. When an adult strider is killed it will drop 1-3 experience and 2-5 string.

Lava does not damage striders, and they can walk on top of it. If they end up on land, they will turn blue and start shivering, and won't be able to move as quickly. They will take damage from water and rain and will take additional freezing damage in powder snow, but will not take damage from snowfall or snowballs.

Striders can be equipped with a saddle and ridden by a player. To travel on them the player must hold a warped fungus on a stick (crafted with a warped fungus and a fishing rod) and look in the direction they wish to travel, much like riding a saddled pig. Using the warped fungus on a stick while riding the strider will take durability off the warped fungus on a stick and boost the strider's speed for a short time. Dismounting can be dangerous, because if the strider is not pressed up against a block for the player to dismount onto, the player will dismount at the strider's location, and likely fall into lava. A Fire Resistance potion should always be kept on hand when riding striders.

Striders have a small chance of spawning with a baby strider riding on top of them. The baby will grow up as normal, but will not dismount when it becomes an adult. There is also a small chance of strider spawning with a zombified piglin riding it. If this happens, the zombified piglin will spawn carrying a warped fungus on a stick, and the strider will spawn with a saddle, which will stay on it if the zombified piglin is killed.

Striders will follow a player holding a warped fungus or a warped fungus on a stick, and if two striders are fed warped fungus by the player, they will enter love mode and breed, and the player will be rewarded with 1-7 experience. Those striders will then not be able to enter love mode again for 5 minutes. It will take 20 minutes for the baby strider to grow into an adult. The growth process can also be sped up by feeding the baby strider cactus.

Illusioner

Hostile Mob
Health Points: 32
Attack Strength: Easy and Normal: 2-5
Hard: 3-5  (Will also inflict Blindness for 20 seconds)

The illusioner is an unused hostile mob exclusive to Java Edition. It can only be spawned using spawn eggs or the /summon command. When killed, they will drop 5 experience and have a small chance of dropping their bow. If they are a raid captain they will also drop their banner.

The illusioner will attack players, adult villagers, iron golems, and wandering traders, and is the only mob that can detect a target through a wall. The illusioner is equipped with a bow, and its attack patterns are more or less identical to those of a skeleton. If it is attacking a player it can also use two different magical attacks.

When an illusioner first attacks a player, it will inflict the player with 20 seconds of the Blindness status effect. It will usually not use this attack on the same player twice. After the effect wears off, the illusioner will make itself invisible and create four clones of itself. The clones will face the same direction as the real illusioner, and will move more or less in step with it. They cannot hurt the player and cannot be killed, but the real illusioner will still be able to damage the player and be damaged, even though it is invisible.

Zombie Horse

Passive Mob
Health Points: 15

The zombie horse is an unused undead passive mob. It can only be spawned using spawn eggs or the /summon command. When killed, they will drop 0-2 rotten flesh, 1-3 experience, and, if equipped, their saddle.

In Bedrock Edition, the zombie horse cannot be ridden. In Java Edition, they function almost exactly the same as a regular horse. In addition, they cannot be equipped with armor, and can breathe underwater.

Stronghold

Strongholds are structures that can generate underground in all Overworld biomes, and are the only way for players to reach the End dimension. To find them, the player must craft an Eye of Ender using an ender pearl and blaze powder, crafted from a blaze rod. By using the Eye of Ender while holding it, it will be thrown, and will fly in the direction of the nearest stronghold. After hovering in midair for several seconds, it will fall to the ground to be picked up and used again. (When an Eye of Ender is thrown, it has a 1 in 5 chance of being destroyed instead of falling.) Once the player is directly over the stronghold, the Eye of Ender will sink into the ground instead of rising into the air, and the player can then dig down to enter the structure.

In Bedrock Edition, strongholds generate randomly throughout the world. Three extra strongholds will generate around 453 blocks away from the world spawn point, and are guaranteed to generate under a village.

In Java Edition, there are a limited number of strongholds. Each world will have 128 strongholds, and they will generate evenly spaced on a series of rings going outward from the center of the world (the 0, 0 coordinates). The first ring begins 1,200 to 2,800 blocks out from 0,0, and the final ring begins 22,700 to 24,300 blocks out. The number of strongholds in each ring will increase as the player moves farther out, starting with three strongholds in the first ring, 6 in the second, then 10, 15, 21, 28, 36, and ending with 9 strongholds in the final ring.

Strongholds are made of a variety of stone bricks, and some of them have a chance to be infested blocks. Infested blocks are blocks that contain a silverfish, and if they are broken, the block will be destroyed and will release the silverfish it contains. If the block is broken with Silk Touch, however, the block itself will drop as a regular block, and the silverfish inside will be destroyed. Another scenario in which silverfish will emerge from infested blocks is if a nearby silverfish is hurt, but not killed, in which case it will send an alarm to all nearby silverfish, including ones in infested blocks.

The size and shape of strongholds varies, with each one consisting of a random assortment of rooms, corridors, staircases, and intersections. There are several different types of rooms, including empty rooms, fountain rooms, store rooms, and libraries, which will be filled with bookshelves and cobwebs, and will contain up to two loot chests. There will also be jail cells made out of iron bars and several iron doors. The most important element of a stronghold, however is the portal room. The portal room will contain a silverfish spawner and an incomplete End portal. The portal will consist of 12 End portal frames, and each one must be filled with an Eye of Ender to complete the portal and grant the player access to the End dimension. There is even a chance that 1 or more of the portal frames will spawn with Eyes of Ender already in them.

Stronghold chests found in corridors will most commonly generate items like apples, bread, iron ingots, and ender pearls. Less common items are redstone dust, gold ingots, iron equipment, the Eye Armor Trim Smithing Template, and diamonds. The rarest items of all are enchanted books, saddles, horse armor, golden apples, and the Otherside music disc. In Bedrock Edition, these chests can also contain emeralds.

Storeroom chests will commonly contain items like apples, bread, coal, and iron ingots. Less common items are redstone dust and gold ingots, and the rarest items of all are enchanted books and iron pickaxes.

Library chests will always generate with a copy of the Eye Armor Trim Smithing Template, and they will also contain paper, books, enchanted books, compasses, and empty maps.
