Cow

Passive Mob
Health Points: 10

Cows are passive mobs commonly found spawning on grass blocks in all Overworld biomes. When killed they will drop 1-3 raw beef (steak if they were killed while on fire), 0-2 leather, and 1-3 experience if they were killed by a player or a tamed wolf. A calf will not drop anything when killed, not even experience.

Cows will follow a player holding wheat within a six-block radius, and if two cows are fed wheat by the player, they will enter love mode and breed, and the player will be rewarded with 1-7 experience. Those cows will then not be able to enter love mode again for 5 minutes. It will take 20 minutes for the calf to grow into an adult. The growth process can also be sped up by feeding the calf wheat.

An adult cow can be milked by using a bucket on it, which will give the player a bucket of milk. The milk will not restore hunger points when drunk, but it will cancel any status effects that the player currently has.

Cow Variants

There is currently one cow variant: The mooshroom. Mooshrooms only spawn on the rare Mushroom Fields biome. They can still be bred with wheat and milked using a bucket, and they have the same health and drops as regular cows, but they have several features that make them very different.

The red mooshroom is the most common type of mooshroom, but there is also a brown mooshroom. Brown mooshrooms will not naturally spawn, and you can only get them by breeding mooshrooms or by striking a red mooshroom with lightning. When two red mooshrooms breed, there is a 1 in 1024 chance for the calf to be a brown mooshroom.

Shearing a mooshroom will give the player 5 mushrooms of the corresponding color, and will convert the mooshroom into a regular cow. They can also be milked using bowls, which will give you mushroom stew.

A brown mooshroom, when fed a small flower, will produce suspicious stew the next time it is milked with a bowl. The effect of the stew will vary depending on the flower, and its duration will be longer on Java Edition than on Bedrock Edition.
