Salmon are passive mobs that spawn in rivers and oceans. When killed, they will drop 1 raw salmon (cooked salmon if they were killed while on fire), and 1-3 experience if they were killed by a player or a tamed wolf. (Raw salmon can also be acquired while fishing.) In Java Edition, there is a 5% chance that they will drop 1 bone meal. In Bedrock Edition, there is a 25% chance of them dropping up to 2 bones.

Salmon can be picked up with a water bucket, which will give the player a bucket of salmon. When out of water for long enough, they will start to suffocate and eventually die. Axolotls will attack them on sight.
