Tropical fish are passive mobs that spawn in rivers and oceans. When killed, they will drop 1 tropical fish, and 1-3 experience if they were killed by a player or a tamed wolf. (Tropical fish can also be acquired while fishing.) In Java Edition, there is a 5% chance that they will drop 1 bone meal. In Bedrock Edition, there is a 25% chance of them dropping up to 2 bones.

Tropical fish come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, the image above being only one of the more common types. In total there are 2,700 different varieties!

Tropical fish can be picked up with a water bucket, which will give the player a bucket of tropical fish. When out of water for long enough, they will start to suffocate and eventually die. Axolotls will attack them on sight.
