Witches are found spawning in all Overworld biomes (except Mushroom Fields and the Deep Dark) at light levels of 0. They will also spawn during pillager raids and witch huts, and a villager will convert into a witch if it is struck by lightning. Witches will attack the player by throwing splash potions of Weakness, Slowness, Harming, and Poison, and will occasionally drink potions of Water Breathing, Fire Resistance, Healing, or Swiftness when needed.

When a witch is killed, it will drop 4-8 redstone dust and 0-2 of up to three of the following items: sticks, glass bottles, glowstone dust, spider eyes, gunpowder, and sugar. They will drop 5 experience if they were killed by a player or a tamed wolf, and if a witch is killed while drinking a potion, it has an 8.5% chance of dropping the potion.
