Iron golems are neutral mobs that spawn in the cages of pillager outposts and in villages, and can be summoned by a group of villagers during their meeting time, or when they are threatened. When killed, they will drop 3-5 iron ingots and 0-2 poppies.

Iron golems spawned in or near a village will wander around near the buildings, attacking any hostile mob it detects, and not leaving the village. Iron golems will occasionally offer a villager a poppy, symbolizing the friendly relationship between the two. When the iron golem's health drops to below 75%, cracks begin to appear on its surface. Using an iron ingot on a damaged iron golem will restore 25 health points.

Iron golems attack by swinging their arms up violently, flinging the target into the air as well as delivering a large amount of knockback. Iron golems can attack targets on the other side of a 1 block thick wall, but cannot attack targets that are above its head height or below their feet.

Naturally spawned iron golems will attack players if the player attacks them, and will also attack if the player hits a villager or another iron golem in front of them. If a player's popularity in a village is low enough, the village's iron golems will become hostile toward that player until their popularity improves.

Iron golems can be built by making a T-shape out of four iron blocks and then placing a carved pumpkin on top. The carved pumpkin can be placed by a player, a dispenser, or an enderman, but it must be placed last. If there are any blocks (even flowers or grass) on the underside of the arms of the T-shape or either side of the space for the carved pumpkin, the iron golem will not be able to spawn. Iron golems built by the player are passive toward players, but will still attack hostile mobs.
