Polar bears are neutral mobs that spawn above grass or ice in snowy plains, ice spikes, regular and deep frozen oceans, frozen rivers, occasionally on in jagged peaks, and legacy frozen oceans, frozen peaks, and snowy slopes in Bedrock Edition. When killed, there is a 75% chance of them dropping 0-2 raw cod (cooked cod if they were killed while on fire), a 25% chance of them dropping 0-2 raw salmon (cooked salmon if they were killed while on fire), and 1-3 experience if they were killed by a player or a tamed wolf. Baby polar bears will not drop anything.

Polar bears will generally act passive toward the player, but if the player attacks one, all the polar bears within a certain area will become hostile, and if a player gets too near to an adult with a cub, this will also provoke them. In Bedrock Edition, polar bears will always become hostile if the player gets too close, even if their is no cub nearby. Polar bears will still perform the attack animation on Peaceful difficulty, but it will not actually deal any damage.

Polar bears cannot be bred, and will also attack foxes. On Java Edition, cubs will be more aggressive than adults when attacking foxes, and on Bedrock Edition, cubs will not attack foxes at all. Polar bears are also immune to damage from powder snow.
