Nether fortresses are large, sprawling structures found in the Nether, and are the only source of blazes, wither skeletons, and potion brewing supplies.

Nether fortresses have two distinct parts, an exterior area of open bridges and an interior area of enclosed corridors. The lava well room is the transition between the interior and exterior areas. Fortress staircases have nether wart growing on patches of soul sand on either side of them. The turns in the interior corridors have a chance of generating with a loot chest, and the exterior bridges can lead to blaze spawners.

Blazes, wither skeletons, zombified piglins, magma cubes, and skeletons can all spawn naturally in nether fortresses, regardless of the biome the fortress generated in.

The most common items in nether fortress chests are gold ingots, saddles, and gold horse armor. Slightly rarer items are nether wart, iron ingots, diamonds, flint and steel, iron horse armor, golden swords, and golden chestplates, and the rarest items are diamond horse armor, obsidian, and the Rib armor trim.
